KASB Bank sponsors file petition in Islamabad court

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has filed the petition in the Islamabad High Court on behalf of the sponsors of KASB Bank, praying the court to direct the SBP to involve the owners of the bank in sell-off negotiations and stop the regulator from lifting the four-month moratorium to avoid a run on the bank.

 

 

Chief Justice of Pakistan rules out repeat of November 3, 2007 situation

ISLAMABAD:  The Supreme Court on Friday asked Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan to submit a comprehensive reply by September 10. A five-member larger bench of Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed the hearing of the matter, observing political concerns should be resolved politically.  Representing Pakistan People's Party, Awami National Party, Jamaat-i-Islami and Balochistan National Party in the case, Aitzaz Ahsan likened the current situation to that of November 3, 2007. 

 

 

5-star hotel in Diplomatic Enclave to see light of day

Islamabad—Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday set aside Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) orders that had stopped construction work at the site of a 5-star hotel (Grand Hyat) in Diplomatic Enclave near Convention Center.

Justice Athar Minallah gave the orders while listening to a petition filed by the construction company Bismillah Niagara Paragon (BNP) Pvt Ltd through Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan. BNP had challenged the directions of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that had issued directions for stopping construction work at the site and also for the arrest of the BNP officials. 

 

 

PBA files petition in SC against PEMRA

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) on Thursday filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against national media regulatory authority. In its plea filed through Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, PBA said that Supreme Court order the PEMRA to discharge its duties independently, impartially and lawfully.

 

The petition has made acting PEMRA chief Pervaiz Rathore and others as respondents.

It said that PEMRA has practically surrendered its authority by taking dictations from others. According to PBA, official members of the PEMRA played the role of government servants.

Supreme Court rejects plea aganinst NAB Chairman's appointment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected two petitions, including that of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, against the appointment of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for the opposition leader, strongly defended the appointment of the NAB chairman.Aitzaz pleaded that it was wrong that the name of a civil servant could not be considered for the office of NAB chairman before his/her retirement, as there was no bar in law. PTI breaching rules in KP, Aitzaz claims in SC

Aitzaz Ahsan Thursday told a three-member bench of the Supreme Court that PTI appointed Azmat Hanif Orakzai as member Right to Public Service Commission (RPSC) in violation of the KPK RPSC Rules, which say that a retired civil servant would be appointed a member of the Commission.

 

Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel Leader of Opposition (LoO) in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, presenting a copy of the newspaper report regarding appointment of Azmat Hanif Orakzai as member RPSC, said the ground on that PTI chairman challenged Qamar Zaman appointment has been violated by his own party in KPK, as Orakzai was appointed member RPSC before his retirement.

ISLAMABAD: Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari will appear in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court on Thursday (tomorrow), ARY News reports.

 

Speaking exclusively to ARY News within the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said that the politicians face trials whereas the military generals fall sick.

Top court refers NADRA chief’s sacking to IHC

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will pronounce within a month its ruling on the government’s move to challenge the interim stay order granted against the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) chairman’s termination from service.

Advocate Akram Sheikh, representing the federal government while challenging the IHC order, argued that the government had rightly appointed Hussain. He requested that the court order the IHC to decide the matter in one day, however Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for Malik, opposed the argument. While referring the matter to the IHC, the SC bench asked both the parties to argue the matter in the high court.
